The Benefits of Facial Acupuncture

The face is the first thing people see when they look at you. It reveals your age, your state of mind, and can even give clues about your personality (before you open your mouth)!

It seems that everybody these days is looking for the perfect facial rejuvenation formula to fight the aging process, hoping to slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) believes it has the anti-aging answer, and that’s facial acupuncture. Benefits include increased collagen production, better circulation and even improved complexion. Is it possible you’ve stumbled upon a treatment that works better than Botox? Perhaps! Let’s learn more…

Facial Acupuncture Harnesses the Body’s Healing Response

Acupuncture works by stimulating points on the body to improve blood circulation and energy flow, as well as reduce inflammation and swelling. In the case of facial acupuncture, this means that it can help with puffiness (especially around the eyes), redness, and other signs of inflammation.

Positive Microtraumas

Acupuncturists believe that when acupuncture needles are inserted into the various acupuncture points of the face, microscopic tears are created, similar to the tears caused in muscles when lifting weights. The body’s immune response rushes to facial muscles and skin, activating the healing process to reduce signs of aging.

While Western medicine has only recently started to look at acupuncture as a possible treatment for various conditions (including migraines), Eastern medicine has been incorporating it into healthcare with great success since ancient times.

Facial Acupuncture For Younger Looking Skin

Facial acupuncture can help with a variety of issues pertaining to complexion and tone of facial features.

  • Collagen Production:

Collagen is important for skin elasticity and firmness. As facial acupuncture increases blood flow to the face, it can increase the production of collagen in your skin, helping it to look younger and brighter.

  • Elastin Production:

Elastin is responsible for giving your skin its bounce back when it’s stretched or pulled. Flexible elastin fibers allow our bodies to bend without cracking or breaking under pressure — and facial acupuncture helps keep our bodies’ elastin production up so that we continue to have flexible, bright-eyed complexions (and avoid crow’s feet).

  • Improved Circulation:

Circulation keeps oxygen circulating through the whole body — including the outermost layer of the skin known as the epidermis.

  • Skin Issues or Concerns:

Skin issues, like breakouts, acne, eczema, and rosacea can all benefit from facial acupuncture.

  • Facial Puffiness and Fluid Retention:

Facial acupuncture reduces fluid retention and puffiness in the face, as well as redness and inflammation, by improving circulation.

  • Wrinkle Reduction:

Facial acupuncture can also help with fine lines and wrinkles. Results won’t be as drastic as Botox, but they’ll last longer!

Facial Acupuncture Has Little to No Side Effects

Unlike surgery, facial acupuncture has little to no side effects. You should feel no pain during your session, just a sense of calm and relaxation. After your treatment, you can resume your normal schedule and regular activities right away.

Acupuncturists do recommend staying well-hydrated afterward. Some patients can experience slight bruising following their treatment, but this is rare.

Frequency of Facial Acupuncture Treatment

The number of sessions required are determined by your acupuncturist, who will make this decision based on the present condition of your face and skin, as well as your goals. Typically, patients have anywhere from eight to ten sessions of facial acupuncture, with regularly scheduled maintenance sessions after that.

Should I Get Facial Acupuncture?

Most individuals are good candidates for facial acupuncture – however, you can always ask the opinion of your primary care physician – ESPECIALLY if you are on blood thinners or suffer from a blood clotting disorder. You should also inform your acupuncturist if you have received Botox treatments, because they may want a certain amount of time to have passed between your Botox session and your facial acupuncture session.

Acupuncture is a Great Natural Facial Treatment

Acupuncture is a great way to get your skin glowing naturally. It can help with fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and fluid retention, and even reduce inflammation and redness. Facial acupuncture benefits deliver natural healing that doesn’t involve drugs or surgery, making it a safe and effective way to maintain beautiful skin without any side effects!

If you’re looking for a great way to get a natural and healthy glow, this may be the option for you! It’s safe, effective, and has very few (if any) side effects, unlike undergoing a facelift or other cosmetic procedure. If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional skin care options like microdermabrasion, Botox or fillers, try this holistic approach instead!
